However, there are some simple steps you can carry out which could mean the difference between a cold home, and a cosy one!
- Service your boiler
It’s easy to overlook how much we rely on our boiler and central heating systems when they’ve been off for the best part of half a year, but now is one of the best times to get your gas appliances serviced.
Why? Not only is our availability better as we are not dealing with as many boiler breakdowns, but it also means that any faults can be identified and dealt with before you switch your heating back on.

- Insulate your pipes
To put it simply, insulating your pipes keeps heat in! It helps stop them from freezing when severe weather hits. I mean, we are all hoping there is never another ‘Beast From the East’ but we can never say never..
Having frozen pipes can cause pipes to burst, which means flooding, damage and even leaving you without water.
#Tip Knowing where your stopcock is and checking it works is a good idea.
- Bleed your radiators
Cold spots on your radiators? This could mean that there could be a build up of air in your heating system which prevents your home heating up as efficiently and effectively. Bleeding your radiators could help resolve this issue. Have a read of our blog here on how to bleed your radiators.
- Fix any problems from last year
If you had any problems with your boiler last year, now is time to get them sorted if you haven’t already. Don’t leave it until the cold comes!

If you’re not a Glow Plus customer, WHY NOT? Sign up and your service will be included in your monthly plan, and you’ll then have access to ongoing support throughout the next 12 months. Alternatively, we can still come and service or repair your boiler for you.
